What is the Year Code?
The Jewish Year Code is used to layout the calendar for the particular year.
Once you have the Year Code you can calculate the Jewish Calendar for the entire year.
You can also determine the weekly Parsha.
There are 14 different combinations of year codes.
The first number of the code represents the day of week Rosh Hashana falls.
2-Monday 3-Tuesday 5-Thursday 7-Shabbos
The second character represents Cheshvan and Kislev
K - Cheshvan has 29 Day/Kislev 30 days
H - Cheshvan and Kislev each have 29 days
S - Cheshvan and Kislev each have 30 days
The third character represents the day of week Pesach falls.
1-Sunday 3-Tuesday 5-Thursday 7-Shabbos
By knowing the day of the week Pesach begins we can also determine if the year is a Leap Year.
